Not every kanthi mala wants to disappear under a shirt. The Kanthi Mala 3 Round Barrel-Shaped Beads is for the devotee who is happy for the beads to be seen. Each bead is elongated, like a tiny barrel, and three loops of them lie together to form a broad, textured band at the neck. It is one of the more substantial styles in our Tulsi Mala collection.

Why Barrel-Shaped Beads

A barrel bead is longer than it is wide, with gently curved sides. Cut from tulsi wood, each one shows its own grain: pale lines, the occasional darker streak, sometimes a rough patch where the fibre split. Barrels sit end to end along the thread, so each loop reads as a ribbon of wood instead of a row of dots. It is an old-fashioned look, in the best sense.

Hand-cut wood is never identical. Some barrels will be a little longer than their neighbours, a few will show small nicks at the ends, and the colour will run from pale sand to light brown. These are signs of real tulsi wood, not defects. With daily wear the tone deepens, which many devotees value.

Fit and Comfort

Larger beads make the band less flexible than a fine-bead mala, so the fit matters more here. The loop does not open, so it must pass over your head. Drop a piece of string over your head, pull it up to where you want the beads to rest, mark that point and compare the length with the one on this page. If you wear thick collars, choose a little more length. Some people need a few days to get used to the extra presence of bigger beads, and most stop noticing it quickly.
